AMBER & MICHAEL | A WEDDING @ THE ROSE
Felicia Marti Photography
Most long-time fans of live music in Colorado, especially those that live west of Denver, know of the iconic Buffalo Rose. Since 1859, the property has operated as a grocery store, hotel, car dealership, luxury indoor pool, labor union hall, department store, barbershop, butcher, tailor, drugstore, confectionery, roller skating rink, liquor distillery tasting room, law office, and photography studio. For the past 35 years the space operated as a lively concert venue that hosted many well-known musicians and thousands of music fans – to include our wedding couple, Amber & Mike.
In 2018, the current owner fully renovated the collection of historical buildings located on the site to include completely refurbishing The Rose event venue . Dramatic historical design elements such as the steel roof trusses, classic brick walls and original windows have been restored, breathing new life into an iconic Colorado structure. This renovation combined with the building’s history as a live music venue proved to be the IDEAL venue for this music-loving couple.
As guests arrived for the ceremony they were welcomed with pre-ceremony cocktails and background music performed by the John Bush Bluegrass Trio. A friend of the bride and groom, a local artist, invited guests to “leaf” their print (fingerprint) and then beautifully inscribed their names below their print. The artist’s work was also used to reserve seats at the ceremony, identify the gift table – which included a guitar case as their card box – and encourage guests to enjoy candy apple favors.
The couple didn’t have a wedding party and opted to have their ceremony officiated by a friend, which seemed to really create an intimate moment between the bride and groom as they stood under the ceremonial arbor and said their vows to one another in front of a stage lined with guitars.
Immediately following the ceremony the couple paused to take a group photo with all of their guests before leading everyone into Cocktail Hour. The John Bush Bluegrass Trio again provided background music for guests as they socialized with the newlyweds.

Guests were then invited back into the transformed reception space for dinner. Cream colored table linens with sage green napkins were accented with gold chairs, autumnal floral arrangements with vibrant greenery, and lots of candlelight. All of the elements came together to create a classic and timeless look. Dinner consisted of a satisfying Italian buffet with Lemon Chicken and Vegetable Lasagna.
Following dinner some tables were cleared from the dance floor to make room for guests to dance the night away to a live performance from Dorado – a local Golden, Colorado band.
This couple pulled off an incredibly fun, energetic, and unforgettable wedding – one that be remembered for the ages, just as iconic as the venue in which it had been held. Cheers to Amber & Mike. What an incredible honor it was to be a part of your spectacular wedding day. Best wishes!
